Conventional Panoramic Cameras are the most popular and generally the cheapest to buy. They simply mask off the top and the bottom of the image circle of the lens to give a long and skinny look to the image. In reality less of the image is shown. They trick the viewer into thinking that they are seeing a wide field of view.

Professionals use the 6x17 format, about 2 by 7 inches. 6x17 format is THE industry standard for stock panorama work. If you are shooting stock you had better be shooting 6x17.

Key Benefits

  • Cheap! You can use the camera that you own now and just cut off the top and the bottom of the image with a pair of scissors. Want to shoot 6x17 format like the Pros? Buy a used 5x7 view camera and cut the processed sheet film to size.
  • Gives the viewer of the image a false sense of a wide view.
  • The standard for professional panoramic photography

CycloVision: 360 degree view from a conventional image. Yes, it's possible!
